School Yard Sale FRIDAY the 22nd

You will learn about economics next week as we prepare for our annual school yard sale. You will choose what you would like to sell, set up your "business", and calculate your profits after the sale.

Parents, this is a good time to clean out closets! All those old books, games, and toys can be gone from your home! :) Some of the kids choose to make items, or buy items wholesale to resell at a profit. Whatever they choose, the end result is a real life experience in economics.

F.Y.I
You will need a cash box of some sort with money to make change. You will have a form to subtract your initial change, so you will be able to take the change your brought  in back home. Just make sure not to spend money from your cash box at the sale. You must bring money separate from your cash box to purchase from other businesses. I will explain more next week on how not to eat into your profits.
Students and parents need to know that no open food will be sold, all items must be in closed containers. Baggies count as closed containers. Also, please note that no food items can be sold containing nuts of any kind.
Also, you may not sell pretend weapons since they are not allowed to be brought to school. I think Nerf items are okay, but if it looks anything like a real weapon do not bring it.

This sale not only helps you understand a little about money in our world, but also helps to fund the Tomi Schaffer Scholarship. For those of you that did not have the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Schaffer, she was a wonderful teacher. She devoted over twenty years teaching here at St. Joseph. Our current class was the last group of students to have her. She was beloved by all, and missed still. You will be asked to donate a portion of your profits to honor her memory.
